Welcome from Conference Convenor

Prof. Peter Brooks, Convenor of SimHealth 2012

SimHealth 2012 will continue the trend that has seen the conference established as the premier healthcare simulation conference in the Asia Pacific region.

This year's conference theme of “Making Teams Work” builds on SimHealth 2011's theme of “Patient Centred Simulation” by bringing together national and international experts from a range of clinical, educational and research disciplines together with policy makers and health services.

If you are a clinician, educator, academic, researcher, leader or policy maker interested in hearing, or sharing, the latest updates on how simulation techniques can be used to enhance training programs and research in healthcare education, patient safety, human factors, systems design and quality improvement, this is the conference for you.

Welcome from Scientific Convenor

Julian van Dijk, Scientific Convenor of SimHealth 2011 2012 promises to be an eventful year for simulation in healthcare as the government agency, Heath Work Force Australia's funding starts to translate into instructors, resources and infrastructure.

With all this activity the 2012 conference theme, “Making Teams Work” appears particularly appropriate. This conference will be an exciting opportunity for us to explore “Making Teams Work” within the broad spectrum of simulation in health care. What do you do? How do you train your teams? What's effective?

This year's scientific program aims to appeal to educators, academics, researchers, policymakers and providers alike. Our keynote speakers, invited speakers and panellists bring a wealth of expertise across themes of team work, patient safety, innovation, inter-professional learning, workforce development and research. As in previous years we present a blended program of talks, workshops and discussion forums and for those with an interest in paediatrics, rural health and simulated patients, the ASSH special interest groups will host user group meetings.

Don't forget to take a look at our pre-conference and in-conference workshop programs offering a wide range of topics including gaming, debriefing, role-play, simulated patients, mobile simulation, assessment, research methods, program development and more!

On behalf of the Scientific Committee I welcome you to SimHealth 2012.
